Brief Description about the Activities Undertaken Since Inception



Since 1994, PEACE is working for the people of Gajapati. The thrust area of the organization is livelihood support program. The other area of interest is health, education, gender sensitization and youth development. Development as a process, we are always in a process of community development since we oragnised this organisation. The major endeavors during last decade are focused below:-

Agriculture

i.Agricultural Awareness Campaign:

Rally and street meetings. Transmission of knowledge on modern techniques of agriculture like, use of improved farm implements, and improved variety of seeds. The mechanical skill have been provided for making of compost pits and vermin-compost in 20 villages for betterment in agriculture. They were also informed about nature and process of different government facilities meant for them.


ii.Formation of Farm Mechanised Society:

They were also informed about nature and process of different government facilities meant for them.


iii.Horticulture:

Promotion Campaigns were organized to motivate the people on horticulture farming. Special focus was on the women group to undertake kitchen garden activities. Around 10,000 vegetable seed packets and around 50000 vegetable seedlings of Brinjal, Chilly and Tomato were distributed among the community members for kitchen garden activities.1500 Horticultural seedlings like Grafted Mango, Guava, and Lichi etc have been distributed among the community.


iv.Nursery Program:

It was undertaken to promote tree plantation habit among the villagers. Attempt was also made to motivate the villagers to protect and create forest. Raising seedlings (around 1lac) of Bamboo, Tamarind, Mango, Guava, Neem, and Papaya and distributed among villagers of 5 gram panchayats of Nuagada Block and 3 gram panchayats of Mohana Block was the major activity.


v.Organizing Farmers Club:

It was initiated in 3 villages of Mohana block 20 villages of Nuagada Block to create a self confidence among the farmers about their age old livelihood resource. Different measures are being taken to revive the agriculture lands under Orissa Tribal Empowerment Livelihood Program (OTELP) and community based drought response program (CBDRP).


vi.Watershed Management Activities:

Under Orissa Tribal Empowerment Livelihood Program (OTELP) 10 Micro Watersheds are implemented through the 10 Village Development Associations of Nuagada Block under Gajapati District. Watershed activities like Check dams, Up-land bonding, Contour bonding, New ponds, Canal, Earth bonding, Chuan etc.are undertaken to restore and promote agricultural land and provide irrigation facilities.


vii.Grain Bank Under OTELP:

Four Grain Banks are formed taking the poor and landless people under the finance of OTELP special fund in collaboration with WFP in four villages namely Gorada, Burduguda, Buripadar and Nidhigudi under Nuagada Block.The district collector of Gajapati has supplied 160 qntls. of rice to the above four villages to strengthen the Grain Bank.


viii.Micro finance :

Under this program OTELP has sanctioned about 50 lakhs of rupees as the revolving loan fund for the development of SHGs under OTELP project.


ix. CBDRP (Community Based Draught Response Program):

Under this program PEACE has renovated the village based Natural resources, and constructed new resources like village ponds,Countor bonding stone, tanks etc in Nuagada Block of Gajapati Dist to enhance the agricultural capabilities amongst the villagers.


x.Formation of Grain Bank:

Twelve numbers of grain banks has been formed in different villages of Mohana and Nuagada Block to promote community based grain savings and credit activity.


xi.ASHA training :

PEACE has a experience in conducting ASHA training.

Education

i.Literacy Campaign:

To enhance the literacy level and to motivate parents to send their children to school this activity was undertaken in different villages of our area.


ii.Non-formal Education centre:

Established N.F.E centres (5nos) on own initiatives to enhance the literacy and ensure primary education for unprivileged children.


iii.Prathamika Sikshya Abhijan activity was worked out in collaboration with DPEP.


iv. Organised “JANA SACHETANA NAMELEKHA ABHIYAN” Rally to convince the community about the need of schooling and to aware them on different facilities and laws of government.


v.Management of Child Labour Schools under NCLP, Parlakhemundi, with an aim to rehabilitated child labour through formal education. These schools are meant for the drop-out children of primary schools. Fifteen centres are functioning in Mohana and Nuagada Block under our management.


Health

i.The Government of Orissa has made an agreement with PEACE to manage a Public Health Centre (PHC) of Govindapur and PEACE managed it three years.


ii.PEACE managed Maa Gruha under Mohana Block (since2011) and Maa Gruha and Arogya plus under Nuagada Block of Gajapati district since 2017.


iii.The Hon’ble collector, Gajapati has ordered to trained 74 Nos. of ASHA(Accredited Social Health Activist) of Mohana Block under NRHM,Gajapati during 2008-09.


iv.Eye Camps were organized and 59 neglected patients were treated.


v.Health Awareness Campaign: Health awareness among the villagers were addressed by participating and undertaking Health Camps(NRHM Gajapati), Pulse polio campaign, Leprosy Identification camp, and Malaria eradication camps.


vi.Organizing Training Camps on HIV/ AIDSwith the help of IIYD, Kalinga, Kandhamala, Orissa.


vii.Community education on Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy (ISM&H), and Reproductive and Child Health Care (RCH) are two health related projects are implemented in collaboration with OVHA, Bhubaneswar.


viii.Village Sanitation Drive: 27 Village sanitation committees were organized in different villages of Mohana Gram Panchayat with the help of young boys and girls and SHG members to keep the environment clean with help of DWSM, Gajapati.


ix. Installation of House Hold Latrines: Construction of 175 Nos of Sanitary Latrines in different villages was completed in our operational area with the assistance of DWSM and DRDA, Gajapati.


x. Two months awareness programs has been organized to aware the people those who are affected by Diarrhea under Mohana and Nuagada Block.


xi. PEACE has conducted Village Disaster Management Plan in 109 villages of Gajapati district since 2019.


xii. Create awareness on COVID-19.



Women Development

i.Women self-governancethrough self-help groups (SHG) program was initiated to make the rural women socio-economically secure, and politically empowered. Presently PEACE is having 160 number of SHGs. Members of different groups have been trained on Establishment of Bakery Unit, Tamarind processing, Turmeric powder processing, Leaf-plate stitching, tailoring and appliqué sewing. Presently NTFP and vegetable growing activities are given priority. Three of our groups are now taking Kerosene dealership from the District Administration


ii.Swabhiman Mohila Sanchayika Sangha-SWABHIMAN a federation of 160 SHGs who are divided into 10 clusters in Mohana and Nuagada Block. It has its own Executive body selected by the Cluster representatives and it is leading by the president and the secretary of the federation facilitated by the staffs of PEACE.


Environment

ii. Rally (Padayatra/Cycle rally) on Environment Protection was observed on the occasion of ‘Bana Mohastsava’ week to make the people organized to protect their livelihood by protecting forest. People were addressed about forest laws and their right.

Social Development and Research

i. Campaign against Alcoholism, Dowry, and Gender discrimination was initiated with the help of village literate youth mass.


ii. Volunteer Vikash Vahini was formed of for reconstruction of people oriented development planning process.


iii.Fixation of Tin sheeted Boards at the local weekly market places at Mohana Block under Integrated Development programs of Government for the rural poor.


iv. Youth Leadership Camps were organised to enhance the leadership quality of young boys and girls.


v.Participated with Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS), Mumbai and carried out Research Project on Health of Rural Women.


vi. Participated with Child In Need Institute (CINI), Kolkata and carried out Research Project on Knowledge of SHGs members on Health Activities.


Economic Rehabilitation and Resettlement

i. Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) and Indigenous People’s Development Plan (IPDP) Activities has been undertaken for the project affected persons (PAP) of Harabhangi Minor Irrigation Project, Adava funded by Department of Water Resource, Gov’t of Orissa. The major activity is to assist Govt. in identification and socio-economic rehabilitation of PAPs and prepare the plan to provide irrigation facilities to the effected people.

ii. Participated with CMDR, Karnataka and carried out Research on PAPs of Harabhangi Irrigation Project.

Survey and Reach



PEACE has allotted 109 villages of Mohana and Nuagada Block by the District Disaster Emergency Operation Center, Gajapati during the Year 2020-2022 to form the village disaster committee through which the Government can help the people immediately at their disaster.


Agriculture and its Related Activities


Agriculture, the means of livelihood, is the major area of activities in the area undertaken by PEACE. The focus of the drive is to reorganize the agricultural sector of this area adding some modern techniques to land treatment, seasonal cropping, seed pattern, use of equipments, etc.

We are concerned with restoration of agriculture in drought prone area of Nuagada Block through preservation of the water (Jala), soil (Jami), forest (Jangala), animal (Jantu), and livelihood (Jeevana) of the inhabitants and empower the tribals to sustain on their own feet.

Information about Farmer’s Group

To achieve the goal of sustainable livelihood through agricultural, Farmer’s Groups are formed to

i.    Expose them to different modern farm activities and governmen policies
ii.    Aware them on nature and scope of cooperatives
iii.    Educate them on use and preparation of bio-fertilizer,
iv.     Educate them on improved variety of seeds, and pesticides
v.    Educate them on scientific agricultural equipments
